Sylvan Pass
As you enter Yellowstone through the East Entrance, you will traverse Sylvan Pass. This high mountain pass, at an elevation of 8,530 feet, offers stunning vistas and is often adorned with snow well into the summer months. The winding road provides dramatic views and a sense of adventure as you make your way into the park.
Yellowstone Lake
One of the first major attractions you'll encounter is Yellowstone Lake, the largest high-elevation lake in North America. This expansive and beautiful lake offers numerous recreational activities, including boating, fishing, and hiking. The West Thumb Geyser Basin, located on the shores of the lake, features fascinating geothermal features right next to the water.
Fishing Bridge
Fishing Bridge, located at the northern end of Yellowstone Lake, is a historic site and a prime spot for fishing and wildlife viewing. The area also features a visitor center that provides information about the park's aquatic ecosystems and the history of the bridge itself. While fishing from the bridge is no longer allowed to protect the native cutthroat trout, it remains a popular spot for visitors to enjoy the scenery and watch for wildlife
Hayden Valley
A short drive from the East Entrance, Hayden Valley is one of Yellowstone's premier wildlife viewing areas. The valley's lush, open meadows and the Yellowstone River create an ideal habitat for a variety of animals, including bison, elk, grizzly bears, and wolves. Early morning and late evening are the best times to spot wildlife in this picturesque valley.
